Appleinsider has posted a report that states that Freescale Semiconductors began showcasing the MPC7448 on Monday. The MPC7448 is the latest high performance chip from the company and the successor to the current chip used in PowerBook G4's.
Based on the e600 core the MPC7448 represents a big update to the MPC74 family of chips so far. The processor is expected to run up to 1.7 Ghz with a FSB speed of 200 Mhz.
Also deserving a mention is that the new processor will use Freescales 90nm SOI process, which reduces the power requirements, Freescale reportedly said that the MMPC7448 offers GHz-class performance at less than 10 watts.
