Post MacWorld 2006

It's all over for another year, that right MacWorld is officially over and its time to start booking tickets for next year. 8-12th January 2007, we'll be there!

So in usual fashion although slightly late we're going to roundup what we got right and what we got wrong, rumour wise that is.

iPod shuffle

WOA Rumour Rating - 4/10

Although we gave it a 40% chance of update we didn't really think it stood a chance, and rightly so it didn't a single mention. The thing that steered us at the last minute was that although it was rumoured that the shuffle was out of stock it soon came back it stock so that soon killed the rumour.

Mac mini

WOA Rumour Rating - 9/10

We shamefully gave this a 90% chance of an update and it didn't receive even the smallest mention, so many things pointed towards the update, in particular as this is the cheapest Mac made me expected it too become the test base for the Intel chips.

We were very far off on this one.

Intel iBook

WOA Rumour Rating - 7/10

Once again with a 70% chance of update we were very surprised that Apple didn't touch the iBook it seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring a cheaper Intel iBook into the Mac domain.

Although at the time we discounted the rumour, ThinkSecret led the rumours with a foray of random information. World of Apple also pointed towards the fact that if the iBook was to be updated it would very likely kill the PowerBook market share.

We ranked it high but we didn't really believe it.

Intel PowerBook

WOA Rumour Rating - 4/10

We mentioned that updating the PowerBook could be risky business and although Apple has indeed introduced the MacBook Pro line if computers it still continues to sell the old PowerBook models. How long Apple will sell them is unknown but as there are no 12" or 17" MB Pro's as of yet then expect them to hang around a little bit longer.

iLife '06

WOA Rumour Rating - 10/10

It's never exactly hard to guess this one, although our prediction of a bundled remote and FrontRow with the package were far off it appears that iPhoto did receive some very significant updates of which some seem to be stemmed from Aperture.

We didn't see the introduction of a new application so this one also took us by surprise, although very very close to the keynote iWeb was rumoured to be introduced.

iWork '06

WOA Rumour Rating - 8/10

Not knowing what Apple would do we once again just generalised and indeed Apple did introduced new features and plenty of eye candy, with our reference to Numbers, we did discount the rumour but it seems Apple have built a very basic spreadsheet system in Keynote for creating charts and tables.

Overall

As you can see we hit nothing on the nail and Apple really pulled some surprises out of the hat, it looks like Apple can keep a secret better than we can find a rumour.
