Think Secret has today reported that it expects Apple to make changes to its serial number scheme. All Apple hardware will sport a new 18 digit numeric serial number. The current serial numbers consist of 11 digit alphanumeric serial numbers.
Hardware components such as optical drives, and motherboards will move from the current 12 digit alphanumeric to a new 17 alphanumeric code.
The change is obviously to accommodate growing product bases and product sales.
