This week the two companies are back in court again. Apple Corps, owned by the former Beatles and their heirs still owns the licensing rights to Beatles'. Apple Corps claims that the introduction of iTunes broke the agreement they made back in 1991.
The agreement prevented Apple Computer from distributing content on physical media, at the time this covered CD's, tapes and vinyl but it is currently unclear whether it can cover later inventions such as digital music or devices that play them.
Apple Computer will claim that the sale of songs via its iTunes Music Store is simply the transmission of data and not the distribution of music.
Back in 1991 Apple Corps settled with Apple Computer for $26 million and was awarded the right to the name on "creative works whose principal content is music".
The case is expected to begin at the High Court on Wednesday.
