You wouldn't believe it but three years ago on this very day, the iTunes Music Store opened its doors to the US market, making it the first viable solution for online music sales. The store was naturally an immediate success with the Apple followers but the media caught on to the fad.
The iTunes Music although only limited to the US market offered something that no other online solution managed to, one set price for all songs.
In December of its first year Apple announced that the iTunes Music Store in the US had sold 25 million songs, an achievement in itself, in fact it was revealed later on that the Store had sold 2 million songs in its first couple of weeks. Steve Jobs also announced just one month later at MacWorld 2004 that one person had single handily downloaded $29,000 of music.
In the years since the official launch of the Store in the US, Stores have opened in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, ROI, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
The Store boasts a catalogue of nearly 3,000,000 songs, 60,000 Podcasts, 9000 music videos, and 70 television programs.
