Apple has settled its long running feud with Burst.com by paying a $10 million lump sum in exchange for protection from any future legal action from the company.
After legal fees and taxes Burst.com will walk away with $4.6 million, in return the company which specialises in media streaming will grant Apple the use of almost its entire patent portfolio.
The battle began in 2004 when Burst claimed that some of the patents it owned formed the basis of the operation of the iPod music player. In 2006 Apple launched a rebuttal against Burst attempting to try and invalidate the aforementioned patents. Burst subsequently countersued Apple in April of 2006 claiming that Apple had commited patent infringement on four of Burst's patents.
