Following on from yesterdays news that Apple has acquired small but successful semiconductor designer PA Semi, it appears that initial thoughts that Apple would use the companies arsenal of chips for future products could be incorrect.
In February 2007, PA Semi introduced a 64-bit, PowerPC dual core processor running at 2GHz which claims to be "300% more efficient than any comparable chips" and uses 5-13 watts of power.
Beyond3D points out that such a processor is not suitable for iPhone and iPod applications as originally thought.
EETimes provides extra information by offering a comment made directly to customers of PA Semi from the firm; Apple is "not interested in the startup's products or road map, but is buying the company for its intellectual property and engineering talent."
PA Semi also told customers that they would be unable to guarantee a supply of chips in the future.
