Apple Adopting NVIDIA Chipsets for New Mac Notebooks

AppleInsider is reporting that they have "confirmed" information that Apple will use NVIDIAs new MCP79 platform in the new MacBook. AppleInsider offers no word on whether the MacBook Pro will also utilise any NVIDIA chipset.

Apple's notebooks would continue to use Intel processors but the supporting chips would be manufactured by NVIDIA, this offers several key advantages over Intel's chipset such as:

  • Smaller physical size due to a smaller number of chips
  • DriveCache, a technology which could be utilised to use flash storage to improve boot times
  • More advanced integrated graphics

The biggest advantage of using NVIDIA over Intel will be in the enhanced graphics capabilities, the MCP79 chipset is thought to use the new GeForce 9300 and 9400 integrated GPUs which according to AppleInsider will "theoretically blow past" Intel's integrated graphics offerings.

Apple is expected to unleash the brand new MacBook tomorrow.
