According to a report from ABI Research, Apple's iPhone now represents 1.1 percent of the worldwide mobile phone market and grew in dramatically from just 0.3 percent during 2007. The reports shows that the numbers put Apple on par with HTC and slightly ahead of Sharp.
Nokia leads the market with 38.6 percent share with Samsung in a distant second with 16.2 percent. Apple's closest rival RIM (Research in Motion) is slightly ahead of Apple with 1.9 percent.
1.21 billion phones were sold worldwide in 2008.
