No Apple TV Cable Box Says Apple Exec

Despite persistent reports over the years that the Apple TV could soon become a cable set top box an Apple executive has put a stop to the speculation.

The information comes via a research note by Caris & Company who on Tuesday said that its analysts had met with Apple executive Peter Oppenheimer to discuss a number of subjects.

"While some have wondered whether Apple might ultimately try to integrate traditional cable set-top box functionality into its Apple TV product, Mr. Oppenheimer pretty much killed that concept and said that it just doesn't fit Apple's business," stated Caris & Company's report.

The analysts discussions with Oppenheimer covered other subjects, one part of Caris' report indicates that Oppenheimer hinted at Apple wishing to continue to lower Mac prices or offer new products at lower price points.

Additionally Oppenheimer admitted that Apple had been struggling to keep stocks of the new iPhone 3GS plentiful but did not offer any specifics.

"Mr. Oppenheimer said he was simply happy to now be able to 'check that box,' with iPhone's launch into China have been a long-awaited milestone," reports Caris and Company. "And while the vast majority of China's cell phone market is pre-paid, Apple sees no reason why iPhone should have any disadvantage taking share of pre-paid markets vs. its post-paid success."
