Computerworld writes that Apple has acquired mapping company Placebase back in July.
Placebase is very similar to Google Maps, offering a mapping service of the whole world with different layers that can be superimposed upon the maps.
Placebase CEO Jon Waldman has also adjusted his LinkedIn profile to list his current position as "Geo Team" at Apple.
