Mac Rumors is reporting that details of Mac OS X 10.7 development has surfaced just three months after the release of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The finding is not at all surprising considering the long development period a major operating system commands.
The information was spotted on an entry detailing changes to the open source "launchd" framework which is responsible for booting of processes during Mac OS X startup. The line of text references build number "11A47" which contains a reference to the operating system version. For example:
- 10.0.0 = 4K78 - released March 2001
- 10.1.0 = 5G64 - released September 2001
- 10.2.0 = 6C115 - released August 2002
- 10.3.0 = 7B85 - released October 2003
- 10.4.0 = 8A428 - released April 2005
- 10.5.0 = 9A581 - released October 2007
- 10.6.0 = 10A432 - released August 2009
- 10.7.x = 11A47 - TBA (estimated Spring 2011)
As expected no details on what to expect in the next major version of Mac OS X are able to be gleaned from the information available.
