Apple Ends Acquired Lala Service

Apple has today shuttered music streaming service Lala which it acquired in December last year. Apple announced in late April that it would close the service but offered no suggestions of whether it would merge the service with iTunes.

Those that used the Lala service and had credit in the service will receive iTunes store credits.

If you purchased web songs on Lala or had an outstanding wallet balance as of May 31st, 2010, an iTunes Store credit code will automatically be sent to your member email address no later than June 14th, 2010.

Rumours of a iTunes streaming service began soon after Apple's acquiring of Lala. Although details are thin it would appear that Apple would allow users to upload music to Apple's servers for streaming to computers and mobile devices. An announce of a cloud-based iTunes service could occur at next weeks WWDC. Steve Jobs will also talk in an interview later today at the D8 conference in which the Apple CEO has had a history of introducing new products.
