Apple to Replace Over-Heating First Generation iPod Nanos in Japan

Apple has agreed to entirely replace first-generation iPod nanos for customers in Japan who have experienced issues with their units overheating. Apple had previously only agreed to replace the batteries but quietly updated its website yesterday to inform that it will replace entire units.

In 2008 Apple began replacing batteries in overheating iPod nanos but the Japanese government continued to press Apple on the issue with calls from the Japan Consumer Affairs Agency and the trade ministry. According to the Japanese government six incidents of the firth-generation iPod nano catching fire have been reported since 2008.
