Today Apple held a live conference call with financial analysts to discuss the company's first fiscal quarter results for 2011 which it announced earlier.
Present during the call was Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer and COO Tim Cook who is currently taking on Apple's day to day operations whilst CEO Steve Jobs takes a leave of absence.
Below are some notes of interest from the conference call:
- Operating margin was $7.8 billion
- Average selling price (ASP) of Macs rose. Desktop now has ASP of $1410 and notebooks is $1272.
- 70% of all Macs sold in the quarter were notebooks.
- Mac accounted for 20% of Apple's total revenue. iOS was 75% (39% iPhone, 17% iPad, 13% iPod, 5% other music), with peripherals were 2% and software 3%.
- Macs sales growing 8x the IDC measured growth of PC market as a whole.
- Strong demand for MacBook Air fuelled geographic segment growth, over 50% in Japan and Asia-Pacific.
- Mac unit sales were up 15% in the Americas, 17% in EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Africa), 54% in Japan, 65% in Asia/Pacific, and separate retail sales and elsewhere up 24%.
- 3-4 weeks of Mac channel inventory.
- iPod touch accounts for 50% of all iPods sold.
- iPod US market share still over 70%.
- 4-6 weeks of iPod channel inventory at end of quarter.
- 160 million iOS devices in the world.
- iTunes Store revenue exceeded $1.1 billion
- iTunes now serves up 400,000 TV episodes and over 150,000 movie rentals and purchases per day.
- iPhone ASP $625.
- 185 iPhone carriers in 90 countries, sales in Asia-Pacific and Japan doubling year-over-year.
- Still a "sizeable backlog" in regards to iPhone production, could sell more if they been able to supply.
- iPad ASP about $600 on revenue of $4.61 billion.
- iPad channel inventory within target range of 4-6 weeks.
- Sold 14.8 million iPads in 2010
- Retail revenue doubled to $3.85 billion.
- Through retail sold 851,000 up 24%.
- China retail stores have highest traffic and revenue.
- 323 stores worldwide, 87 international.
- 75.7 million store visitors in quarter
- Average revenue per store was $12 million.
- Apple gross margin 38.5%.
- Cash and secure holdings at end of December was $59.7 billion.
- Cook: "If this is cannibalization, it feels pretty good."
- $2.6 billion in revenue from China in the quarter, two years ago did less than $1 billion during the whole year.
