It is being reported by Reuters that Apple has submitted a proposal for a standardised SIM Card design that is even smaller than the current micro-SIM format found in the iPhone 4 and iPad 2. The new design which has yet to be revealed reportedly has the backing of Orange in France.
In a comment to Reuters Anne Bouverot, Orange's head of mobile services said, "We were quite happy to see last week that Apple has submitted a new requirement to (European telecoms standards body) ETSI for a smaller SIM form factor -- smaller than the one that goes in iPhone 4 and iPad".
Bouverot also said, "They have done that through the standardization route, through ETSI, with the sponsorship of some major mobile operators, Orange being one of them".
Orange says that devices using the new SIM card could appear next year.
