Industry sources have reported to DigiTimes that Apple will adopt a curved-glass display for the iPhone 5. The sources who are familiar with the Taiwan-based supply chain have suggested that glass manufacturers have been "reluctant to commit investment to the purchase of glass cutting equipment due to the high capital involved".
DigiTimes reports that Apple has been pushing forward with the production of the glass and has purchased 200-300 cutting machines which are being stored ready for bringing online.
The sources offer no timetable for the iPhone 5 saying that Apple is "still working with related suppliers including those involved in cover glass, glass cutting, lamination and touch sensors to improve yield rates".
