As is to be expected the iPhone 5 looks likely to receive a bump in the quality of its rear facing camera. The current 5MP camera on the iPhone 4 is supplied by Taiwanese company Largan Precision, the same company is now expecting to ship improved sensors for the iPhone 5.
In a short post DigiTimes is quoting sources who believe that Largan Precision will begin shipping 8-megapixel modules in great capacity "in the third quarter of 2011 due to possible orders from Apple". Current 8MP lens modules account for 10% of Largan's shipments but this is expected to rapidly change.
A third quarter shipment is inline with rumours that Apple will not release the next-generation iPhone until the end of the company's 2011 fiscal year which ends in September.
