iPad Software Reveals Expected and Unexpected

As is usual for latest iPhone OS releases delving into the softwares depths reveals some of Apple's future roadmaps for mobile devices. The iPad which went on sale last Saturday runs a newer version of iPhone OS than any other device featuring version 3.2 compared to the iPhones 3.1.3.

Within the software is few surprises, as revealed by Boy Genius Report the files show that Apple is planning three new iPhone model and once again an unknown product is listed within.

The latest iPhone known as the 3GS is shown as 'iPhone2,1', the first number showing major changes in hardware such as processor and the second number revisions to that hardware. For example the original iPhone is 'iPhone1,2' and the iPhone 3G is 'iPhone1,2', both devices run the same processor but feature slightly different hardware configurations elsewhere.

The existence of 'iPhone3,1' is not surprising and was discovered as far back as March 2009 but the addition of two other iPhones suggests that Apple may be planning more than one iPhone hardware release this year.

As for the other listings, 'iPod4,1' refers to the newest iPod touch model presumably due for release in September 2010 and it is also assumed that 'iProd2,1' refers to a new model of iPad.
