iPhone Looks Set for Early 2011 Verizon Appearance

This week the hot news has been that Verizon looks set to begin selling the iPhone in early 2011. Although rumours of a Verizon iPhone have been around for years, this week saw numerous sources pointing towards the end of AT&T's exclusivity with Apple.

It started with an article in the Wall Street Journal which cited people "briefed by Apple" and spoke of how a Verizon compatible iPhone is due to enter mass production imminently.

Apple Inc. is making a version of its iPhone that Verizon Wireless will sell early next year, according to people familiar with the matter.

WSJ also notes that Verizon and Apple have been working together to add capacity in preparation for heavy traffic from iPhone users

Also hidden in the middle of the article from the Wall Street Journal is a mention of the next generation iPhone.

One person familiar said the fifth-generation iPhone would be a different form factor than those that are currently available, said one person familiar with the new iPhone plan. It was unclear how soon that version would be available to Verizon or other carriers.

Today has seen the arrival of the New York Times on the Verizon iPhone bandwagon.

After more than three years of using only AT&T cellphone networks, Apple is now making a version of the iPhone 4 for Verizon’s network, according to a person who is in direct contact with Apple. Apple and Verizon will begin selling the phone early next year

Mac Rumors astutely notes that Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg will host a keynote at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show set to be held on January 6th, 2011.
