Apple Under Pressure to Reveal CEO Succession Plan [U]

As of writing Apple is currently holding its annual shareholder meeting at its headquarters in Cupertino California. Details from within the meeting are few and far between as Apple likes to keep a tight lid on the items under discussion; but it has been revealed that Apple will come under pressure to reveal a succession plan.

The meeting which kicked off at 10:00 am Pacific time is being hosted by Apple COO Tim Cook and Steve Jobs is not present at the meeting despite being a member of the board of directors.

One of the items on the schedule is to discuss Apple's succession plan to CEO Steve Jobs who is on his third medical leave in seven years. Central Laborers’ Pension Fund, Illinois, which holds almost 11,500 Apple shares worth $3.9m will lead the proposal that will encourage Apple's board to disclose plans for replacing Mr Jobs, and how it is preparing the executive team under him.

Another proposal would allow shareholders to block the election of directors who run unopposed by withholding their votes.

Both proposals are being blocked by Apple and are widely expected to fail.

[Update] All votes have been counted and all the votes went as expected. Apart from the shareholders approved the final proposal requiring a majority vote for directors.
