Last week Apple executives Tim Cook, Peter Oppenheimer and Eddy Cue sat down with Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi to discuss the direction of Apple and its products.
Sacconaghi took away from the meeting that Apple is projecting "a very confident tone" and is focused on "the right things" in expanding the iPhone market and focusing on the "explosive" tablet market.
Within Sacconaghi's were some of these key points:
- iPhone called "the mother of all halos" with the product expanding sales of all other Apple products, especially in "emerging markets".
- Cook "appeared to reaffirm the notion that Apple is likely to develop lower priced offerings" and is planning "clever things" to address the prepaid market.
- Apple doesn't want products to be "just for the rich" and is not "ceding any market".
- Capitalising on the "explosive" demand for the iPad, Apple believe tablet market could end up being a bigger market than the PC.
- Carrier expansion is huge priority for Apple which only holds 175 carriers compared to RIM's 550.
- Apple's capital structure not efficient but will use to do partnerships and secure key components.
